The story behind the sheep…

My Grandmother helped my little sister and I rescue a water-logged sheep. She taught us the importance of helping all creatures and being a good “shepherd.” That sheep memory serves as a metaphor for my childhood memories with my Grandmother in my drawings. I emphasized marking making, texture, and line with various art materials including wool yarn and thread.

Grandmother provided us with a sense of safety and protection, a link to our Texas cultural heritage and family history, taught us the joy of cooking and creating, and was our dearest companion in play and exploration. She gave us life skills and memories as children that would carry us in good and bad times as adults.
